Using a Tekkeon for tethering with a PT

Postby kingsqueak » July 9th, 2010, 10:56 pm

Not really a mod, will fill in my results as I go here.

Just playing around.

Got two Tekkeon MP1800 battery packs here and I'm using a BB with the PT threaded on it.

I am curious how the Tekkeon would work just tied to the BB with the PT cable. 90% for me, this will suit the situations where the long potential life of the Tekkeon as-is, should git 'er done.

Would work sitting in a cup holder in my car, or sitting on a desk top, somewhere where I'm sitting in place and maybe don't want plug-in power at the time.

Initial impressions are very good, voltage reads properly at 5.0V and with a brand new Tekkeon fresh off charge, the hit is the same as being wired into a 5V 4A rated powered USB hub I was using with it.

Will update as this goes as I'm curious what the batt life will be like.

A pic for size comparison...crappy phone pic, but the Tekkeon pack is smaller than it really looked in pics. The tip on the BB is a 510 carto with a drip tip on it.

6pm to about 1am, went to sleep, started cranking on it again at 10am or so....still going.

I'll keep updating this until it's dead finally.

Still have full green light on it, goes to yellow as capacity drops and eventually red.

So the unit is limited at 1A and 5V and I was concerned it may not have enough current for me, but with 808's and a 510 carto on it, it's really nice. Much better than 3.7V, though likely a good bit lighter than if I had a buck-booster in this to bump the current capability.

I really may not mod this...as-is it works with the PT and I can just plug my cell phone in it too for doing draining things like using its GPS.

Still going on yellow. Vaping the same. Two days of as heavy use as I ever expect to make of it. Moderate to heavy vaping sitting around the house.

O. K. So the red light is finally blinking.

I would call this a success. If you have a USB PT and want portable power, this is a home run.

Still going, through the morning coffee heh.

For a ml consumption gauge. I realized I started this just as I'd completely topped off a 15ml dropper bottle. I've gone through a bit over half of that bottle so far on this one charge. So I'd figure 8+ml easy. I think that's fairly heavy use... I was pretty bored during this period and just kept vaping.

The whole test was done with a regular 510 carto, no LR etc.

O.k. now it's solid red at rest.

So first day was 6pm to 1am, steady use say 7hrs
Next day was 10am to mindnight or so so 14hrs
Today was a bit lighter use but another 3hrs

So you are looking at 24 hours of actual active intermittent vaping use with a regular 510 carto.
