goodman's flavorings at walmart

Postby junquedujour » June 17th, 2011, 4:33 pm

this has come up recently on a couple of other threads lately. on the ecf, the thread was initially posted over a year ago and i bumped it a couple times to see if anyone had actually used any of the non-oil goodman's flavorings. after 2 bumps, there was no answer, sooooooooooo, i thought i would drag the topic over here and see if anyone here has used, would use, or is using the http://www.goodmansvanilla.com/html/sample_gift_pack.html for their diy.

i did pick up a couple of the flavorings that did not list oil as one of the ingredients and this is what is listed on the bottles:

banana: pg, natural and artificial flavor, benzyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, and water
white vanilla: vanillin, ethyl, pg, and water.

any thoughts of go/no go on these for diy e-juice?
and if you have used any of these, were the results good/bad?

I have not used that brand but I have looked at oodles of flavorings I see in stores on shelf. I wish I could zoom into the ingredients to give you opinion whether I'd try them or not.

Of course you want to avoid oils with your atomizers but many people use a dash of peppermint or other oil based flavors.

Artificial coloring is next on my do not vape list. If there are any colorings added I avoid...even caramel coloring as that gunks up atomizers easily.

I prefer flavorings that are PG based as opposed to alcohol based. Many people do use alcohol in their juices and/or flavorings so that isn't a deal breaker for many...I just personally prefer alcohol free.

Can't hurt to experiment with them if they have seemingly safe ingredients in my opinion.

If you really want to dive into DIY there are a ton of flavorings to play with. I have fallen into a natural flavoring run for awhile now. I'm really digging the new natural line from LorAnn's and Fairies Finest has some good ones too.

There are also some vendors with DIY sections that have a good assortment to start playing mad scientist

ethyl is just pga/everclear.

The following is just the impression I got from reading a couple articles just now.

benzyl is used in small amounts in intravenous drugs, as a preservative. There have been reported cases of neonatal deaths from benzyl alcohol when using it to flush out catheters. In small quantities healthy adults can metabolize it fairly quickly. It is also used in a solution to kill head lice. I would avoid using it, though I'm sure it's used in a lot of things we use daily

I would think the small amounts being used in flavors, which gets diluted even more when mixed into juice, shouldn't be a big concern, but why bother when there are or options.

The why bother wasn't meant for you, I meant why would a flavor manufacturer bother when safer is available

No agave for me :( Wally world here doesn't carry it, not much of a selection on flavoring either, just the basic McCormick stuff.

interesting, that goodman's is located just up the road from me about 30-40 miles. i may have to make a li'l road trip one of these days. i will probably call them and see if they have a storefront - however, i did notice that on the website they only have a burnt sugar, but no caramel :-( maybe the burnt sugar would taste good too though. who knows. btw, i did not get a chance to mess with the diy this weekend. guess i'll have to try for another day.
