Rawr Vapor Reviews

Postby Ever1ast » November 4th, 2011, 8:09 pm

Since I've recently tried several juices from Rawr Vapor, and a few others have ordered as well, I wanted to start a running review thread so we can compare and decide what else to try. I'm not usually a reviewer but I've been fairly impressed with Mike's products and wanted to spread the word a bit. Feel free to add your thoughts and reviews to this thread, good, bad, or otherwise.

I'll start off with a couple quick facts I've learned about Rawr (for the record, I'm in no way affiliated with Rawr, nor have I been asked to provide these reviews)

Rawr is a pretty small, homegrown operation. Mike the owner began mixing his own juices, which quickly became popular among his friends. Once he offered them up to the Vaping community the rest was history.
Two things will stand out to you when you peruse his website:
1) Mike apparently thinks EVERYTHING should be mentholated! From what I've been told, up untill recently you had to ask specifically to get juices with no menthol. He now has several levels of menthol available for all of his juices from a drop down menu; everything from None and "Is there menthol?", all the way up to "LOL WAY TOO MUCH MENTHOL".
2) Mike has a penchant for naming his juices with some very original names. You'll see the tame ones like "Berry Lemonade" and "Green Peach Tea". But you'll also see ones like " Raging Bitch" and "Screaming Mammaries"! Like them or hate them, he gets points for originality and creating a few LOLS in my books.

A couple things I've noticed personally before I get to my first reviews about Rawr: Whatever components and methods Mike uses to create his juices, he's able to avoid the fake perfumy taste that some others vendors/juice makers have. Of the ones I've tried so far, all have been very smooth, very realistic flavors. I note this in particular because of the Cinnamon Strapple - I've only ever found 2 cinnamon juices that I can stand to vape and this is one of them. Usually anything cinnamon tastes burnt to me. The fact that Rawr's doesn't have that burnt flavor and is in fact very smooth and enjoyable, says alot to me about his methods. One other thing I wanted to include is a recent experience with a friend I'm trying to convert to vaping. I gave her a Volt kit that I had won, and several juice samples from different vendors. She stopped using them because the said they all made her cough. I recently saw her after getting my first order from Rawr and let her try 2 of the flavors I had loaded in my tanks. She loved both of them, and even better, neither were making her cough. Needless to say she'll be ordering some of her own soon and hopefully will become a full convert. But the fact that Mike's juice was smoother than all the others she'd tried says alot about the quality of his products.

I'll be back shortly with my review on my favorite so far: Strapple :)

Strapple (Strawberry Apple) 0 menthol

Image

The flavors in this one are as simple as it's name. It's a crisp apple flavor (not too tart) combined with a slightly sweet strawberry. Not a candy flavor, these are very realistic fruit tastes. I could very easily picture this as a flavor you'd find bottled in a Snapple Fruit Drink. On the inhale you get a little of both fruits, while on the exhale, I'm tasting predominately the Strawberry. I'd have to say the berry flavor out weighs the apple overall. Strapple is very smooth, with a pleasant light aftertaste that fades quickly. My first 30ml bottle was gone in days and I couldn't wait for the next order to arrive. Unlike a couple other fruit liquids I've tried, I have yet to have my tastebuds "burn-out" on this one. It tastes just as good now as it did a week ago with constant vaping. Definitely on my list as an all-day vape, Strapple jumped to the top of my list of favorites the first time I tried it. I'd highly recommend this one to anyone who even remotely likes vaping fruit flavors.

Vaping 12mg, 50/50 vg/pg from a lava tank with a Boge 3.0 at 3.7v, I'm getting pretty decent vapor production. Not "fog up a room" clouds, but still some pretty thick vapor. Throat hit is very light with this one. If you're a TH junkie, you might like the flavor, but you'll be missing a heavy TH. Of course, I'm only vaping 12mg, so that may vary depending on the strength you use. While I'm finding I prefer lower voltage vaping most of the time, I bumped up to 5v (still on a 3.0) to get a different perspective for this review. I'm happy to say that this juice is just as enjoyable at 5v as it is at 3.7v. If anything, the higher voltage brings out more of the apple flavor and a little more tartness, while getting NONE of that cooked flavor that some juices do at higher voltages.

Overall, this one gets a huge thumbs-up from me. Already on my second bottle, I'll be re-ordering this one in larger sizes from now on. By the way, I can't comment on steeping just yet because I haven't had any last long enough to steep  But even right out of the mailbox, it's already moved up to one of my top favorite juices.

Hmmm.. sounds lovely! I have heard a ton of wonderful comments about Rawr and regret not grabbing some samplers from him at Vapercon.

Let me know about the Peach Green Tea when you get a chance too lol.. I see that bottle isn't quite full ;) Hoping that means it's a good one too. I might have to grab some samplers.

Green Peach Tea -- 0 Menthol

Image

This one surprised me for two reasons. 1) I'm not a big green tea fan. And 2) I already have a favorite Peach Juice from another vendor. So I was kind of shocked at how much I liked this juice. The only reason I ordered it is because a local buddy of mine had some and let me try it, so I decided to order a 30ml for myself.

Initial impression of GPT: A very mild, smooth, leafy green tea flavor. It's not an "in-your-face" flavor....just like the tea it's named after, this is a low key, relaxing and take your time kind of juice. Green tea drinkers will recognize it immediately.
Secondary impression: the peach is not as strong as you'd think. Don't order this expecting a primarily peach flavored juice. The peach only comes through as a secondary note to the green tea. I actually kind of enjoy the fact that the peach isn't overpowering; it just subtly compliments the tea flavor.

As with the Strapple, I've been vaping this at lower voltages. To me, I find the flavors come through truer this way. But I also tried it at higher settings as well; and just like the Strapple, GPT flavors brighten and pop with higher voltage. Mike seems to be onto something for those who enjoy HV Vaping.

The TH on this one is a bit stronger than other Rawr juices I've tried, but not by much. I think the introduction of the tart peach flavor gives it a little extra kick. But I'd still only give it a 2 out of 5 for TH, and it's just barely a 2.

Vapor production is decent - either from a tank with a 3.0 Boge or dripping with a LR Atty. GPT is putting out some decent, thick clouds with some serious hang time.

Overall, this is not a hardcore, kick in the throat kind of juice. But if you're a fan of realistic flavors that you can vape all day; you'll want to give this juice a try. I really did not expect to be as big a fan of this as I've become, but I'm already more than halfway through a 30ml bottle. I've been turning to this one when I get tired of some of the other flavors I'm vaping and need a palate cleanser or something to refresh my tastebuds. Even if you're not a green tea drinker, I'd recommend giving this one a try.

Cinnamon Strapple -- 0 Menthol

Image

I won't go into as much depth with this one, since it's essentially the Strapple I've already reviewed with cinnamon added. But the addition does change the flavor, so I'll focus on that.

Right off the bat, if you tried Cinnamon Strapple in a blind taste test; you might not recognize it being related to the original flavor. The cinnamon addition really becomes the focus to this juice, leaving the strawberry and apple as the second and third flavors you notice. However, even as the primary flavor, this is not an Atomic-Cinnacide, or a Cinnamon Red Hots flavor. Cinnamon fans will like this, but don't expect it to be a super spicy or overpowering flavor. I waited a couple days to post this review because I was trying to pin down what to compare the flavor to. The closest I've been able to come up with is the subtle spiciness you'd experience in a cinnamon spice cake. Not hot, a little sweet, just the bare essence of the spice you'd find in a spice rack. However, it does completely change what you get from the original version. Just like Strapple, out of the two fruit flavors in this one, Strawberry is the predominant one. With that in mind, your first impression of this might be that its a Cinnamon Strawberry Juice, which to be honest, is pretty good in itself. You'll have to spend a minute vaping this one to experience the subtle apple that's still there.

VV Vaping: I'll be honest, I didn't like this one as much at higher voltages. It never got any burnt taste, but the already low-key apple flavor seemed to get lost altogether. 4.0v and below in an SR carto is where I found the flavors really come through with this one.

Vapor production, just like all the others from Rawr, is decent with Cinnamon Strapple. A few times I've had to wave it away from the monitor just to see what I'm typing lol.

Throat hit is, once again, pretty light. I thought out of the bunch I ordered that the cinnamon would add more kick than the others. But this is still more of a smooth vape. Keep in mind though, I'm only vaping 12mg. You might experience it differently at higher nic levels.

Overall, if I had to pick between this flavor and the original Strapple; I'd go with the original. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of this one. But the added layer of a third flavor to the mix just seems to confuse the crisp, bright flavors of Strapple. If you're a cinnamon fan though, and you've been worried about using any Cin-juices in your tanks, you ought to give this one a try. (I've had it in a Lava and Notta tank so far with no problems whatsoever)

I have received my RAWR juices. I ordered all 70/30-pg/vg. I've only tried two so far, because Mike said the Truth Serum was better steeped.

Cherry blossom Mint. Cool menthol level. It's very minty. Not so cherry. Could just be me. One of the guys I work with said he tasted black licorice. I don't get that. I got strong mint with a just a very slight hint of cherry. Not bad, but not something I'm going to chain vape.

Love Potion. Mystery fruit punch, cool menthol level. I like it. I taste apple predominantly, but there are definitely other fruits there. I have been chain vaping since I tanked it this afternoon.

The "cool" menthol level is almost perfect for me, personally. If you're not a menthol person, but still want the tingle, I would suggest the "is there menthol in this?" level. Good TH and vapor from both I tried using the Boge LR's. From what I've sampled so far, Mike will get a return visit from me. He's got a few other flavors that I want to try and I like his menthol. I like fruits menthol'd. :gr8:

I must warn you that my taste buds are a little weird, for lack of a better term. I don't taste tobaccos. Like, in anything. They say tobacco, I don't taste it. So, my tastes are way different than most peoples I've noticed so far. The guy at work that vapes always tastes something different from what I get. I know taste is subjective, so that's why I'm pointing this out. I will assume no blame if one of you orders from RAWR and dislikes his products.

Long story longer, I will be ordering more RAWR Juice. I like what I've tried so far. I'm going to give the Truth Serum a few days to steep, and if you'd like to know, I'll tell you about that too.

Okay, I have tried the Truth Serum, cool menthol level. Boge LR 2.0 ohm carto on my P+ at 3.7V.

It's an odd combination of pear and coconut creme. It struck me as weird on the first pull. The coconut is like real coconut, not candied like most people are use to. The sweetness of the pear is very complimentary to the delicate taste of a real coconut. I'm not picking up much creme to the flavor but I think it may be slightly muted by the menthol. It is a little creamy on the inhale but gives way to the menthol on the exhale. I think the absence of menthol would let the flavors shine a little more than what I'm experiencing.

In summation, it is a very good flavor, just not something that strikes my tastebuds as "killer". Not bad in any way, just not something that would be an all day vape for me personally. I will definitely come back to it when I'm wanting something different, so I will be keeping it in a rotation.

Just a little update, I still can't put down the Love Potion. If you like menthol fruits, it's definitely a good one!
